Sewer connection leads to grant talks at meeting

NAVASSA, NC (WECT) – Some Brunswick County residents are demanding for a sewer connection - and now they're closer to a solution.

People who live in one part of Navassa say leaders promised them sewer service by 2008. It hasn't happened yet.

Monday night, town leaders met to talk about the best way to make it happen. The meeting centered on a public hearing, and it gave some upset people just what they've waited for a chance to speak out. But like any public hearing, the topic is narrowed down. Council wanted to focus on finding a process for grant funding.

There are three infrastructure grants to consider. Residents want to make sure that any grant will go toward getting their sewer hookup moving forward.

A Perdue spokesman confirmed Monday the Democratic governor discussed economic development matters at a mansion breakfast but declined to identify the interested company.

Brunswick County was where Continental Tire considered building a plant and hiring more than 1,000 workers before announcing in October it was going to South Carolina instead.
