Belville commissioners vote to censure Batson

BELVILLE, NC (WECT) - Belville Commissioners voted to censure Belville Mayor Jack Batson Thursday night.

After a heated debate, town commissioners in Belville voted 3 to 1 Thursday night to censure Mayor Jack Batson.

The censure was based on what a resolution details as a consensual, personal relationship with a town employee in 2010.

The resolution clearly states that there is no evidence that Batson and the employee, who was not named, dated, had sexual activity or engaged in any illegal activity.  However, it details that Batson and the employee exchanged emails, phone calls and had closed door meetings of a personal nature.
