Construction on Village Rd. to take longer than expected

Construction on Village Rd. to take longer than expected

LELAND, NC (WECT) – Construction crews have been working on Village Road in Leland for well over a year, and now Department of Transportation officials say the project will take a little longer than expected.

According to DOT officials, the more than $5 million project will make the road safer and easier for drivers.  But right now, many can't help to think about the inconveniences the construction is causing.  Crews are estimating the project will be finished two months later than they had hoped.

Some business owners in the area are feeling the impact from drivers frustrated with the construction.  They're reporting at least a 50 percent drop in customers since the project began.

Despite the complaints from Leland residents now, most of them agree the road improvements will be worth it once they're finished.
