Police Chief Tim Jayne addresses Leland Area Rotary Club

LELAND, NC (WECT) – Chief of Police Tim Jayne was the featured speaker at the Leland Area Rotary Club meeting Thursday. Chief Jayne is a member of the Leland Rotary Club. The Rotary club membership represents businesses and professional men and women in the community.

The Leland Rotary club was chartered in 2010 and serves northern Brunswick County. Rotary is an organization worldwide of business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. The world’s Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all. 

Electronics, copper stolen in Leland recently

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — According to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, jewelry, a Nikon digital camera and an MP3 player were stolen from a residence on Hickory Drive in Leland on Sunday.

Copper was stolen Monday from an air conditioning unit at a business on Clarendon Dr. in Leland, according to the @Brunscosheriff twitter feed.

Filing period closes for the day with no one new from North Brunswick

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Leland is looking to elect a mayor and two councilmen, but so far only one person has filed to run for election.

Brenda Bozeman, who filed on July 1, is currently unopposed in the mayor category and no councilmen candidates have stepped forward. Filing will end at noon on July 15.

No one from Belville has filed the necessary paperwork either, leaving a mayor and two commissioner seats open.

The filing period for Navassa will start on Monday, July 25 and will end on August 12.

One person signs up Tuesday to run for office in North Brunswick area

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Only one person signed up to run for office in the northern portion of Brunswick County Tuesday.

Poe Butler is seeking another four year term on the Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO.  He's the first one to throw his hat in the ring for that office.

The filing period runs through July 15th.

Leland Mayor presents key to the city during banquet

LELAND, NC (WECT) — Leland Mayor Walter Futch presented the South Brunswick Islands Rotary Club with a key to the city at the Leland Area Rotary Club’s annual officer installation banquet, held June 30 at Magnolia Greens Golf Course in Leland. 

“The South Brunswick Islands Rotary Club played an instrumental role in the formation of the Leland Area Rotary Club, and they have been extremely supportive of our efforts to grow since we chartered last year,” said Frank Williams, newly installed president of the Leland Area Rotary Club, in a news release. “It is safe to say that there would not be a Rotary club in Leland today without their efforts.  We are grateful for their support and are pleased that Mayor Futch chose to recognize their efforts with a key to the city.”
