District Attorneys welcome new class of interns

District Attorneys welcome new class of interns

LELAND, NC (WECT) – Promising law students joined district attorneys Ben David and Jon David for lunch Monday morning to kickoff their summer internship.

The 16 interns will spend the summer getting hands-on experience inside the courtroom.

"What we're hoping for all of them whether it last a career or just a summer is that they do something really important,” said Ben David. “That they have an experience that changes their lives and the lives of people we represent every day."

The intern class is a collection of law students from the seven law schools from around the state.

Weather: Record cold?

A couple of cooler (although pleasant) days ahead as Canadian cool air moves in under a dome of high pressure.

Today, we will slowly press into the low 70s, with tons of sun and some light northwesterly winds.  Tonight, we will make a run at a century old record low temperature.

Back in 1917 we hit 44F for the low, I'm predicting  45F for tonight.  So you get the idea: clear and cooler weather is expected tonight into tomorrow.

As we move into Wednesday or temperatures will move back into the 80s with some of that summertime humidity returning as well.

Some rain chances are possible this weekend, but with zonal flow aloft our pattern won't be changing much for the last half of the week.  Highs in the mid-80s lows in the  60s.

Remembering Kyle Jones

LELAND, NC (WECT) - Family, friends, and community members took to the links on Saturday to celebrate and honor the life of a hometown hero who died earlier this year.

Kyle Jones was a detective with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office.  He passed away in January because of a viral illness at the age of 41.

Golfers at the Magnolia Greens Golf Plantation in Leland teed-off in his honor on Saturday as part of the first annual Kyle Jones Memorial Golf Tournament.

All proceeds will benefit his daughter Reyde's college fund.

Kyle's Mother, Barbara Jones is sharing the memory of her son by helping others.

"With the help of God, church, family and friends," said Jones.  "It's cleansing for my soul.  Anything I can do for my kids to help raise money for Reyde's college fund, it's a blessing."
