WEATHER: Seattle summer weather - weekend changes

No fewer than an half dozen people have made reference to the Seattle like weather we have been having during the afternoon here his week, and it's a good observation.  Much like the Pacific Northwest we have been under the imposing influence a cool maritime air mass.

While the mist and drizzle hasn't accounted for much (only .02" in the last two days), it has made it a bit uncomfortable outside.  And with the upper level pattern helping to lock this scenario in plan for the next couple of days.

So the northeasterly winds bringing cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions will once again keep temperatures into the low 70s this afternoon.  Also like yesterday, there is just enough moisture moving onshore today that a few light showers are possible especially for coastal locations.

We could see similar conditions briefly today, but again I'd be surprised if any spot  collected more than a tenth (.10") of an inch.

Turnpike projects added to McCrory's road overhaul

RALEIGH, NC (AP) - Some North Carolina
lawmakers say approving Gov. Pat McCrory's transportation overhaul will be a
bit harder after a House committee added several turnpike projects to the bill.

The House Finance Committee on Thursday added
an amendment to McCrory's plan that would authorize the Cape Fear Skyway, the
Garden Parkway and the Mid-Currituck Bridge.

Bill sponsor Rep. Bill Brawley of
Mecklenburg said the projects were originally removed because they had not yet
been bonded and should go through the new formula for prioritization that
McCrory's plan will create.

Representatives
from Catawba, Chowan and Dare counties argued the projects are vital to
economic development in depressed regions.

WEATHER: Damp and cool

So the northeasterly winds bringing cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions will once again  keep temperatures into the low 70s this afternoon.

Also like yesterday, there is just enough moisture moving onshore today that a few light showers are possible especially for coastal locations.

Yesterday between 3:00 and 5:00pm we picked up on just under .01" at the official recording station at ILM.  We could see similar conditions briefly today, but again I'd be surprised if any spot  collected more than a tenth (.10") of an inch.

Conditions will dry and clear some as we go into the weekend with mostly sunny to sunny skies expected under an area of high pressure that will continue to tap cooler northeasterly winds.  Highs will move into the mid 70s, but not much warmer.   Very nice weather for outdoor activities.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - In keeping with a longstanding Brunswick County tradition, students from all elementary schools will compete this week in the 23rd annual Project Fitness.

Project Fitness, the brainchild of Nelson Best and Ron Champion, began in 1990 as a high school event.  Over the years the fun trickled into the middle and elementary schools.  While track and field has now replaced the event in secondary schools, the tradition continues each year for elementary students.

The event is a fun field day that showcases the best of the best in the following fitness events: one-mile run, 800 meter run, 600 meter run, 400 meter run, 100 yard dash, 50 yard dash, the standing long jump, pull ups, flex arm hang, and 4 x 100 relay.

Students compete in two age categories, 8-9 year olds and 10+.
The event begins at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 2 at South Brunswick High School.
