BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The cost of pens, pencils, paper, tissues and hand sanitizer can quickly add up. Many of the items on students’ school supply lists are used by everyone and Brunswick County Schools will soon eliminate those items from students’ school supply lists.
District spokesperson Jessica Swencki said the district is in the process of creating simplified shopping lists for each school in the district. In the past, each teacher had his or her own supply list. Items like tissues and hand sanitizer will be removed from those lists and the district will pick up the cost of common supplies.
Swencki said the goal is to cut down the costs as much as possible for families. She said the district should pay for certain items and not the students.
Right now the district is in the process of creating the standard supply lists.
