BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Forty men and women will begin the journey of a lifetime this week as they officially start their teaching careers.
North Carolina requires beginning teachers to attend three days of induction prior to entering their classrooms. Each local school system is responsible for designing and delivering the induction program. Dr. Deanne Meadows who serves as the system's executive director of human resources, coordinates the program for Brunswick County Schools.
According to Meadows some of Brunswick County's new teachers are recent college graduates just entering workforce and some have chosen teaching as a second career. No matter the path, they are all experiencing this first together.
The 3-day induction program will be held Tuesday-Thursday, August 14-16, 2012 in the media center at Supply Elementary School. Teachers will participate in training from 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. daily. Topics include the teacher evaluation instrument, accessing and using instructional technology in the classroom, and commonly asked questions about student records and other legal issues.
