LELAND, NC (WECT) – Leaders in Leland are giving residents the chance to be a part of history.
Construction has already started on the town’s new town hall and police department, but they are giving locals an opportunity to put their own personal touch on the building.
The steel frame for the new building is up, but they have left some pieces out on purpose.
One of the beams for the roof of the building is now sitting near Leland’s municipal park so people can come by and sign it.
A sign directs locals to sign it with some of the markers they have left out on the beam.
Those who have already signed it say it’s a great way to get everyone involved in the community.
"I think the nostalgia of the wall being here is great,” said Rob Pezzote.
Pezzote and his grandson signed their names on the wall Tuesday afternoon.
“I think people like to have or be a part of history and my grandson and I are going to be a part of the Leland history and I’m excited about it."
Anyone is welcome to come sign the beam.
