RALEIGH, NC (WECT) – More than 700 arrests were made during the 2012 Booze it and Lose it Halloween campaign.
Brunswick County had the second highest number of DWI citations with 35
during the campaign which ran October 26-31. Mecklenburg and Wake County
both had 47 citations.
According to the NC Department of Transportation, a total of 24,363 traffic and criminal citations were issued statewide.
"Scary costumes were not the only thing out over the Halloween holiday as impaired drivers also made an appearance," said Secretary Gene Conti in a press release. "Thanks to law enforcement officers from across the state enforcing our laws during this campaign, countless lives were saved."
Officers also issued 1,377 safety belt and 272 child passenger safety violations, 6,465 speeding violations and 758 drug charges. In addition, they apprehended 641 fugitives from justice and recovered 44 stolen vehicles.
