Weather Radio Wednesday returns to Leland on May 9 | Events

LELAND, NC (WECT) - With southeast North Carolina now in the heart of severe weather season and hurricane season approaching, WECT, in conjunction with Midland Radio, is proud to bring back Weather Radio Wednesdays. 

The first event will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9 at the Walgreens located at 319 Village Road NE in Leland. 

First Alert Meteorologists Colin Hackman and Eric Davis, along with First Alert Weather Network reporters and other volunteers will be present. During this event, we'll be happy to answer your weather questions and program any kind of weather radio.

Modern weather radios have codes that can be programmed into your radio, giving you weather warnings for your specific county with a tone or voice. North Carolina has one of the highest fatality rates in the country for nighttime tornadoes. A properly programmed weather radio will alert you while sleep and give you and your family crucial moments to prepare for potential severe weather.
