Brunswick Novant Medical Center now performing spinal surgeries | Health

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Residents in Brunswick County who need to undergo spinal surgeries now won’t have to travel as far as before -- Brunswick County Medical Center is now offering several surgical procedures for the spine, according to a news release.

Treatments include lumbar spinal stenosis, herniated discs, spine fractures, and adult deformity such as spondylolisthesis.

Mark Foster, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who came to Brunswick Novant in 2012. He has already performed several spine surgeries there.

Dr. Foster performs the following surgeries:

• Kyphoplasty, a procedure to repair damaged vertebra
• Minimally-invasive lumbar decompression and lumbar laminectomy for spinal stenosis Lumbar microdiscectomy to remove a herniated disk
• Nerve root decompression
• Lumbar decompression and fusion

Foster earned his medical degree from Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C., where he also finished his internship and residency.

His other fellowships were with the NC Spine Center in Chapel Hill and the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. While there, he finished his specialization in diagnosing and treating spinal diseases and conditions along with foot and ankle conditions.

Additionally, Dr. Foster is a physician with Orthopaedic Specialists, with locations in Southport, Supply, Leland and Sunset Beach.
