BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Brunswick County Sheriff's Deputy who was cleared last month for shooting two people during a domestic dispute has been terminated by the sheriff, according to a spokesperson for the office.
Sgt. Brian Tully had been employed by the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office since 2002. Last December, Tully responded to a call near Leland. Timothy Thomas called 911 after a dispute with his wife, Casey Thomas, on the day after Christmas. An investigation revealed Mrs. Thomas was attempting to stab her husband. The deputies ordered her to drop the weapon, but in the process Tully fired his weapon and hit both Mr. and Mrs. Thomas. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
The North Carolina SBI investigated and determined in February that Tully was justified in his actions.
Tully was terminated at the discretion of the sheriff last Friday. No reason was given for the dismissal.
