FIRST LOOK: Council spells out censure of Belville mayor

BELVILLE, NC (WECT) - Commissioners in Belville plan to discuss a potential censure of Mayor Jack Batson in a special meeting Friday night.

The town clerk released the proposed resolution Wednesday in advance of the meeting.

Commissioners are upset with the mayor over secret discussions with the town of Leland about a potential merger of the towns. Batson admitted keeping commissioners in the dark while having discussions.

Among other items, the resolution points out, "the Board further finds that Mayor Batson continues to openly defy, discredit and embarrass the Town's governing body with respect to his actions, comments and omissions concerning the merger with Leland."

The resolution calls a for a censure "in the strongest terms possible" and immediate call for Batson to cease and desist talking about a potential merger of towns. You can read the entire proposed resolution now on the related link associated with this story.
