LELAND, NC (WECT) – The town of Leland has decided to not purchase developed properties along the riverfront.
Leland Mayor Brenda Bozeman said two residents recently came to the town offering the sale of their properties located at 102 and 110 River Drive in Leland.
Town leaders met in closed session Friday morning to discuss purchasing the land that is about eight acres. They voted unanimously to not make the purchase.
Bozeman said the properties would have been used for economic development and parks and recreation in the town.
"It's not the right time," said Bozeman.
Frankie Thomas and Donald Gilbert were the two residents who came to the town with the offers. The properties would have been sold as two separate parcels, according to Bozeman.
Bozeman said the town had the properties appraised earlier this week and soon decided to not make the deal.
