Horse diagnosed with EEE in Brunswick County
News

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A horse in Brunswick County has been diagnosed with Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), the 19th case in the state this year.

Emergency officials attribute the number of EEE cases to the active West Nile virus and EEE season this year.

"We all need to be aware mosquito borne diseases can be prevented by taking personal protection measures," David Stanley, Brunswick County Health Director, said in an emailed release.

Officials say the risk of getting infected is eliminated with proper handling and thorough cooking of meat prior to eating.
