NCDOT awards nearly $4M for bridge preservation project | News

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Thomas Rhodes Bridge, which carries U.S. 421 over the Cape Fear River in New Hanover County, will soon get a major facelift.

The NC Department of Transportation has awarded nearly $4 million contract to preserve the bridge.

Officials said in a press release the project will entail major preservation work, including hydro-demolition of the bridge deck and the placement of a latex modified overlay, replacement of expansion joints, cleaning and painting, and various structural concrete repairs.

HRI Bridge Company of Pennsylvania was contracted to complete the project. Work can begin any time between March and October 2013 and must be finished within a little over a year.

This is one of 22 contracts awarded by the NCDOT in November for highway and bridge projects across the state.
