SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) – One round of a rain/snow mix moved through the area late this afternoon and early this evening. Luckily temperatures were above freezing so we only saw light accumulations of snow on grassy surface. Roads were wet and not icy.
Right now one last round of precipitation is moving through the area. This second system should coincide with some temperatures closer to freezing, so light snow accumulations of up to half an inch maybe possible.
Later tonight the snow showers will end but cold Arctic air pouring in behind the system will allow temperatures to drop into the mid and upper 20's.
Any wet spots on roads could freeze causing slick spots after midnight into early Sunday morning. Bridges and overpasses will be the biggest concern. By mid-Sunday morning it will be very cold and breezy but air temperatures will move above freezing and any travel problems will end.
