Wilm. man arrested, charged during Brunswick Co. checkpoint

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Wilmington man was one of several suspects charged during a March 15 “Booze It and Lose It” checkpoint on Hwy. 74/76 West at the Brunswick River Bridge, according to a spokesperson for the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

Patrick Deon Davis, 28, was arrested for DWI, then found to be wanted in New Hanover County for failing to appear on charges of manufacturing marijuana; felony possession of marijuana; possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana; maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.  

Davis was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Facility, and was placed under a $50,000 bond.

Whiteville man arrested on drug charges during checkpoint

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A Whiteville man was one of several suspects charged during a March 15 “Booze It and Lose It” checkpoint on Hwy. 74/76 West at the Brunswick River Bridge, according to a spokesperson for the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

Jarmall Akeem Collins, 28, was arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine; possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine; simple possession of schedule III controlled substance (two hydrocodone 10mg pills); simple possession of schedule IV controlled substance (30 grams of crack/cocaine and two grams of marijuana); and possession of drug paraphernalia (digital scales).

As of Monday, Collins was being held at the Brunswick County Detention Facility under a $100,000 bond.

Authorities write 55 charges during 'Booze It and Lose It' campaign

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Authorities made several arrests Friday night as part of a “Booze It and Lose It” checkpoint on Hwy. 74/76 West at the Brunswick River Bridge, according to a spokesperson for the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

The following 55 total charges, listed below, were written, according to operation supervisor First Sgt. William Caulk:

Gas leak causes businesses on Industrial Blvd. to evacuate

LELAND, NC (WECT) – Several businesses on Industrial Boulevard in Leland were evacuated Tuesday afternoon due to a gas leak in the area, according to Fire Chief John Grimes.

Grimes said workers were doing construction in the area when they hit a gas line.

According to the fire chief, 8-10 businesses were evacuated as a precautionary measure and no injuries have been reported.

Fire crews are expected to be on the scene until about 4:30 p.m.

WANTED: Man accused of credit card fraud

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Have you seen this man? The Shallotte Police Department said he's wanted in connection with a credit card fraud case.

According to police, this man was with a female at the time of the fraud. The pair were riding in a newer model black Chevrolet Impala.

Police said the incident happened March 9, 2013 at several stores in Shallotte.

Law enforcement step up patrols for 'Booze it & Lose it' weekend

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Law enforcement agencies will step up patrols this weekend for the St. Patrick’s Day “Booze It & Lose It” campaign.

According to the Governor’s Highway Safety Program, the campaign runs March 15-17 across the state.

Law enforcement will unveil the new BATMobile Friday morning at the launch of the campaign.

DWI’s can be processed in the BATMobile. The 40-foot long unit features two magistrate stations, a full office and surveillance cameras in the back.

According to a press release, the BATMobile also has six stations where officers can perform breath concentration tests.

More than 800 DWI citations were given out during the 2012 St. Patrick’s Day “Booze It  & Lose It” campaign.
