LELAND, NC (WECT) – WECT has learned that the town of Leland and a Leland Police officer have reached an agreement.
The town of Leland will be released of any liability as long as Officer Sherry Lewis resigns and the town pays her their $5,000 deductible out of the $18,000 total she will receive.
Both parties accepted the agreement.
Members of Leland Town Council meet in Thursday to discuss an incident involving an officer who says she was injured as the result of training by the Leland Police Department.
According to attorney Robert Crawford, Officer Sherry Lewis has filed an EEOC claim against the Leland Police Department claiming she was the victim of discrimination and was hurt during training.
Chief Timothy Jayne released a statement Wednesday saying his department stands behind the training and that there was "no wrongdoing by any officer of supervisor who participated in the training."
