Event will raise money for baby with cystic fibrosis

LELAND, NC (WECT) – Magnolia Greens Golf Course is hosting an event soon to raise money for a baby’s fight against a disease.

According to event organizers, on March 2, the golf course will host the event, called Teeing it up for IV. IV Shaw is an 18-month-old who is suffering from cystic fibrosis.

LELAND, NC (WECT) – If you’re looking for a way to get in shape ahead of the upcoming summer months, Leland Parks and Recreation is offering a series of classes soon called Body Sculpting.

New classes start March 11, and the workout is described as one that incorporates cardio bursts, athletic drills and strength training exercises with hand weights.

Register for the Lucky Leprechan 5K now

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – While you can register for the Lucky Leprechaun 5K up until race day, the clock is ticking if you want to be guaranteed a T-shirt from the event.

The race will be held at the Winds Beach Resort in Ocean Isle Beach, Saturday, March 16. There will be a shotgun start time of 9 a.m.

Runners are encouraged to dress in St. Patrick’s Day apparel and can even bring their dogs along for the fun.

Proceeds from the race will go towards providing scholarships to low income youth and adults for participation in Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Programs.

Celebrate Groundhog Day with a Whistle Pig

LELAND, NC (WECT) - Celebrate Groundhog Day with a unique race in Brunswick County.

Leland Parks and Recreation will host the first Whistle Pig 5K race and one mile fun run/walk on February 2.

The course will take participants through the Westgate Community and the first phase of Westgate Nature Park, which is the town's first major park on nearly 150 acres.

Phase One of the park includes a paved and elevated boardwalk trail, outdoor classroom, playground and picnic area.

Run for Ray Trail Run scheduled for Feb. 23

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A trail run fundraiser in honor of a man who lost his life to a chordoma brain tumor will be taking place soon.

Run for Ray is an event that athletes of all levels can participate in, in which runners can choose from a three-mile, a 9-mile or an 18-mile trail run.

It will be held Sat, Feb. 23 at Brunswick County Nature Park, according to www.its-go-time.com.

LELAND, NC (WECT) – If you’re looking for a fun way to exercise, Leland Parks and Recreation will soon be offering a new workout class called Body Sculpting, according to a news release from a parks and rec. spokesperson.

The class, which welcomes participants of all fitness levels, is described as “a challenging full-body workout combining cardio bursts, athletic drills and strength training exercises using hand weights.”

The cost is $95 for the entire eight-week program, which starts Jan. 14, and gift certificates are available.
