LELAND, NC (WECT) — North Brunswick High School’s athletic celebration will be held on Thursday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m.

The school will also have an academic celebration on Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m.

Duathlon at Brunswick Forest will benefit Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The second annual Atlantic Orthopedics Duathlon at Brunswick Forest will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 15.

The race will include a 5K run, 16-mile bike ride and a 2-mile run through the grounds of Brunswick Forest. Two person teams are welcome to register.

The event will reportedly benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training.

Golf fundraiser to be held Thursday in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The Brunswick Care Center is having a golf fundraiser event on Thursday, May 12 at the Brunswick Forest Golf Club.

The day of play will begin with registration and a putting contest at 9 a.m. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. and cocktails will be served at 4 p.m.

Dinner will be followed by awards and silent and live auctions at 5 p.m.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The Stingray dads of Virginia Williamson Elementary School are challenging the Brunswick County Sheriff's Department to a friendly game of basketball to raise money for Relay for Life.

The charity basketball game will be held at West Brunswick High School on Friday, May 6 at 6 p.m. Pizza and refreshments will be available for purchase and there will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle.

LA Classic golf tournament raises almost $4,000 for local charities

LELAND, NC (WECT) — The Leland Area Rotary Club's inaugural "LA Classic" golf tournament was held on Thursday, April 14 and raised nearly $3,900 in net proceeds for several local charities.

According to a press release, the tournament proceeds will benefit Communities in Schools of Brunswick County, the Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross and Rotary International's $200 million challenge to eradicate polio worldwide.

“When we decided to organize this tournament, we did so because we wanted to give back to the community,” said Tommy Wallace, golf committee chairman for the Leland Area Rotary Club, in a statement.  “We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of community support that made this tournament a success and allows us to make our community a better place.  We owe a debt of gratitude to our sponsors, volunteers and those who played in the tournament.”

Results are in for the Oak Island Lighthouse run, walk

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) —  The 13th annual Oak Island Lighthouse run and walk was held on April 16 and 534 runners participated from 16 states.

Tyler Sing won the men's 5K division with a time of 18:49 and Heidi Pinkerton took the women's division with a time of 20:59. Overall winners in the 10K were Clint Henry (35:43) and Suzanna Tulsey (41:18). All of the winners reportedly received an Oak Island lighthouse designed print from the 211 Ricky Evans Gallery in Southport.

Brunswick Juniors Volleyball Club to host end-of-season finale on Sunday

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Brunswick Juniors Volleyball Club will have its end-of-season finale on Sunday, April 10 at Brunswick Community College’s fitness and aquatics center from 4-6 p.m.

All players, parents and coaches are invited to attend and parents will reportedly be taking on their daughters in a parent and player scrimmage.

Here is the schedule of events for the day:

  • 4-4:15 p.m., welcome and announcements
  • 4:15-4:30 p.m., warm-ups and team mixers
  • 4:30-5:15 p.m., players vs. coaches and parents scrimmages
  • 5:15-5:30 p.m., team pictures and club photo
  • 5:30-6 p.m., wrap-up and pizza party
