Players, sponsors needed for Special Olympics golf tournament fundraiser

LELAND, NC (WECT) – A golf tournament to benefit Special Olympics of New Hanover County will be held at Magnolia Greens Golf Course in Leland, according to a flyer.

Special Olympics is a volunteer-run organization that provides athletes with uniforms, supplies, meals, transportation and lodging, free of charge.

Therefore, to help with funding, both sponsors and players are needed for the golf tournament, scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Applications being accepted for youth basketball leagues in Bruns. Co.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Applications are now being accepted to sign up for youth boys’ and girls’ basketball in Brunswick County.

Boys and girls in first through sixth grades can participate, and a mandatory skills analysis will be held for those interested on Nov. 15 and 16.

The registration fee is $40, and the deadline to register is Nov. 19. Registration will be accepted at the Brunswick County Parks and Recreation building in Bolivia at the Government Complex from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Scorpions win takes them 3-1 on the season

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – After taking their first loss on the road in week 3, North Brunswick was back at home Friday for week 4 of high school football.

The Scorpions went head-to-head with Lejeune, but it wasn’t much of a fight. North Brunswick dominated throughout the game, beating Lejeune 45-8.

They’re now 3-1 on the season.

North Brunswick hosts Whiteville in Week 5.

  • Topsail at Ashley
  • Purnell Swett at New Hanover

  • Whiteville at East Columbus
  • Cannon School at Harrells Christian
  • East Bladen at Clinton

North Brunswick nearly shut out by East Columbus

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – North Brunswick went into Friday night’s game against East Columbus undefeated, but the Gators were ready to shut down the winning streak. In fact, they nearly shut out the Scorpions.

North Brunswick’s Graham Rivenbark runs one in for a touchdown…the Scorpions only points the entire game. The Gators defense controlled the game and even put up some points.

Final score: North Brunswick 6, East Columbus 20.
