'Click it or Ticket' campaign celebrates 20 years

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Monday, May 20th marks the 20th anniversary of North Carolina DOT “Click or Ticket” campaign.

According to the press release, North Carolina was the first state to launch this safety program in 1993.

The release also states, The Click it or Ticket campaign runs through Memorial Day weekend and ends on June 2nd.  During this time officers will cite driver’s state wide who do not buckle up.

Port City Bridges expected to go up Wednesday Morning

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – According to the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge Tender, a ship is leaving Kinder Morgan at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May, 8.

The Isabel Holmes Bridge will go up first around 10:15 a.m. and then the ship will make its way to the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge causing the bridge to go up around 10:45 a.m.

Expect delays heading in and out of town between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Bridge closure near Winnabow until May

News Release from the NC Dot:

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close the bridge on SR 1515 (Old Mill Creek Rd) .6 miles East of the Junction of NC 87 near Winnabow beginning Thursday April 25 at 8:00am until Friday May 3, 2013 at 5:00pm for emergency repair to the sub structure of the bridge.

The NCDOT reminds motorists to STAY ALERT, encourages motorists to use alternate routes when possible during this period, drive with caution, obey the posted speed limits, and allow extra travel time.

Traffic change for residents of Stoney Creek Plantation and Snee Farm

LELAND, NC (WECT) -  According to a press release from NC DOT,  pipe Installations will require a temporary traffic pattern change for drivers trying to access parts of the Snee Farm and Stoney Creek Plantation neighborhoods off U.S. 17 near Leland for the next four weeks. 

This will take place on Wednesday, April 10. D.O.T Crews will install a pipe under the U.S. 17 service road that runs between Zion Church Road and Hewitt-Burton Road.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Overnight lane closure on Brunswick River Bridge

 

LELAND, NC (WECT) - The left eastbound lane on the Brunswick River Bridge near Leland will be closed at 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, until 2 a.m. Thursday, March 28.

This bridge carries U.S. 17/74/76 in and out of Brunswick County.

According to the press release, the lane closure is necessary so crews can repair the rail on the bridge that was damaged during a recent accident.

Crews to install speed bumps on N. Olde Towne Wynd

BELVILLE, NC (WECT) – Expect delays along N. Olde Towne Wynd for the next couple of months while crews install traffic calming devices.

According to a press release, construction will begin in the area March 20 and will continue for about 60 days.

Signs will be posted and a flagman will be staged at the entrance of the road.

Drivers are reminded to obey all speed limit signs to ensure safety and the safety of the construction crew.

Expect bridge closures overnight for filming

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Just a remdiner...the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge is expected to have intermittent overnight closures this weekend while film crews work in the area.

Weather permitting, the bridge will close for no more than five minutes at a time Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17 from 7 p.m. until 5:30 a.m., according to a press release from the NCDOT.

Drivers should plan for extra time crossing the bridge during those nights and use caution in the area.
