LELAND, NC (WECT) – A Leland woman’s family recently grew significantly when she and her husband, Mike,  welcomed five new children into the world on Thursday, according to a news release.

Carmen Milam Matthews, 33, gave birth in Mesa, AZ, where she was under the care of renowned perinatologist John Elliott, MD.

After a 34-week pregnancy, the quintuplets, two girls and three boys, arrived between 7:25 a.m. and 7:27 a.m.

The children’s names and weights are as follows:

  • Lorna Brenn, girl, 4 pounds, 3 ounces

  • Carleigh Sue, girl, 3 pounds, 10 ounces
  • Rucker Mitchell, boy, 2 pounds, two ounces
  • Eason John, boy, 3 pounds, 12 ounces

Matthews is said to be in good condition, and the babies are currently in the neonatal intensive care unit at Cardon Children’s Medical Center.

A hospital spokesperson said Saturday that the babies are estimated to be able to return back home to NC in about three weeks.

If you'd like to help give donations to the Matthews family, they are being accepted at three area Doctors Vision locations: 1031 Grandiflora Drive in Leland, NC; 1994 South 17th Street  in Wilmington and 201 Racine Drive in Wilmington.
